Last night before bed Mike and I thought it would be fun to watch a good documentary. Growing up I never watched many mostly because I thought they were boring but since college I have found them to be some of my favorite films. It is so interesting to me to dig into a topic that I may otherwise. Not to mention how inspiring they are to see how someone lives their life. That was why I was so glad to have come across the story of Bill Cunningham. I knew very little about Bill. I knew he was a street photographer but not much else.
I do not want to give too much away but I will say this may be one of my favorite stories of an artist I have heard yet. What I so admired about Bill after watching this and learning so much more was his deep passion and drive to document and tell a story. Not to mention his ability to live on so little and be so content. I find that to be such a personal struggle especially as a designer and a blogger I am always wanting things but have to keep myself in check. If you notice he is always in that blue jacket as he photographs some of the most stylish people in the world.
Finally the thing I took away from his story most was how very little he looked beyond himself for what he created. He knew what he wanted as an artist and how to he wanted to create it. This is so hard in our fast moving internet world but those people that can accomplish that are the people who truly begin trends and transform our world.
So place it in your Netflix instant cue you will not regret it.

Hello! I’m Megan Gilger,
A strong believer that nature and the seasons are our greatest teachers. We live on a hill in Leelanau County, Michigan just a stone’s throw from Lake Michigan. This land we are responsible for is where we are focused on building a life around the seasons and intention. We spend our days here building a regenerative model of living and focusing our garden on native plants and intensive polyculture planting styles. My focus is less on self-sufficiency and more on community-sufficiency through how we grow and connect through the seasons.
