Monday Inspiration: Modern Quilts

For some time now I have been obsessed with the modern quilt. I have mentioned before how much I love the look of quilts but when it comes to true art I believe this is a lost artform in today’s society. As people have begun progressing towards working with their hands more and getting their hands dirty doing their own gardening and raising of chickens and becoming self-sustained the quilt has risen along with the trend of going green and homespun.

But the thing I have noticed is that modern art has entered into the creation of quilts. True artists are developing pieces that are in depth color studies that come together in the long process of quilt making. Some done by hand and some done by machine but the mapping out of these pieces takes incredible work, detail and patience to create. There is nothing more interesting or inspiring to me right now than these artists who are also quilters.

Happy Monday everyone!

Hello! I’m Megan Gilger,

A strong believer that nature and the seasons are our greatest teachers. We live on a hill in Leelanau County, Michigan just a stone’s throw from Lake Michigan. This land we are responsible for is where we are focused on building a life around the seasons and intention. We spend our days here building a regenerative model of living and focusing our garden on native plants and intensive polyculture planting styles. My focus is less on self-sufficiency and more on community-sufficiency through how we grow and connect through the seasons.
