The Cherry Orchard

Living in Northern Michigan is hard at times I will be honest. The snow up to your knees at least 4-5 months a year and the cold windy days are no fun. But when Spring begins to roll around and I see the cherry trees blossom and the whole air smells sweet I am reminded how precious this place is. There is beauty in the change of seasons and really keeps you on your toes. I love and hate it at times but this is the time of year when I love it. Now if only it would be consisestantly warm.

So when the blossoms came our wonderful friend/client/partner in crime, Cory Weber asked if he could shoot us just for some practice out in the orchards. If you have not seen Cory’s work you are missing out. Mike and I work with Cory. Cory holds a special place in our hearts since he was the one that encouraged us into business and has been such a creative inspiration and sounding board over and over again. He believes in us as creatives and us in him. Mike currently works as one of the photographers under Cory’s photography business, Weber Photography. So we get to work with his amazing couples and will periodically sharing our work we do for him here. I also do all of Cory’s album designs, design his custom photobooths and have done with Mike all of Cory’s branding! We basically mine as well be known as his creative team haha. It’s a blast to work along side one super awesome person like him. I will just be honest.

So this is the product of the shoot Cory did of us. He wanted us to just go out in the orchard and be ourselves. Be in love and have fun together. As you can see I still was wearing my working in the office hair and simply threw on a dress (which is from Forever 21 if you wondered) and pulled on my Frye boots I got from Ella’s in Traverse City and we just went to the orchard.

I don’t really share much about Mike and I’s relationship or get very open about it but in a nutshell there is no one who knows me better. He is my best friend and challenges me every day to be the best I can but also accepts me at my worst. He’s perfect and I couldn’t ask for anything better in life than him. He makes me smile and giggle like the love of your life should. I think one of my favorite things about him is simply the joy he brings to my life everyday. It’s more than I ever expected or could have wished for. Not to get too sappy but I do really love this Texas boy.

Well we are off for a shoot tonight speaking of photos. Till tomorrow friends!

Hello! I’m Megan Gilger,

A strong believer that nature and the seasons are our greatest teachers. We live on a hill in Leelanau County, Michigan just a stone’s throw from Lake Michigan. This land we are responsible for is where we are focused on building a life around the seasons and intention. We spend our days here building a regenerative model of living and focusing our garden on native plants and intensive polyculture planting styles. My focus is less on self-sufficiency and more on community-sufficiency through how we grow and connect through the seasons.
