Making some of our favorite staples is honestly easier than we think. If anything has reminded me of this it has been this time in quarantine. We have learned how to make more out of less and that sometimes our staple items are actually much simpler to get back in our pantry than we thought. So today I am sharing with you how to make your own peanut butter…or well any nut butter for that matter! It is quite simple and takes very little to get it done! Literally you can make peanut butter with one ingredient: Peanuts….in less than 5ish minutes and you don’t have to do anything in that time. Let me share how.
To make this easy peanut butter you need the following:
Cuisinart Food Processor
The desired amount of Peanuts (I usually do about 2 cups)
You can use any sort of peanuts you have on hand. I had salted peanuts but you could use raw, dry roasted, or anything in between.
Here are the instructions to make Easy Peanut Butter:
- Drop all peanuts into your food processer with the blade attachment and turn it on.
- At first, the peanuts will just chop up…let it keep going
- Just keep letting it run and run…about 5ish minutes
- Then you will see it starts becoming smooth and clumped and eventually it smooths right out and you have peanut butter.
At this point, you could add other things like honey or cinnamon or anything else you would want, but that’s it.
I store the peanut butter in a 12-ounce ball jar in the fridge for a month (it never lasts longer than a week though).
So what if you don’t have peanuts?
Awesome question and let me tell you…this works even without peanuts! The following nuts will work in this recipe as well and I am noting if any other adjustment needs to be made to make it quicker or happen smoothly.
- Almonds: I would roast them at 350F in the oven for 10 minutes to warm them up prior to this. If need be add a little oil of choice to smooth it out.
- Hazelnuts: I would toss them in the oven similarly to the almonds. This helps to open the oils in them and make them easier to process
- Pistachios: These are fatty enough that they should release their oils very similarly to peanuts without heating
- Walnuts: Another great fatty nut that should easily release their oils like peanut butter
- Pecans: could be roasted to soften and warm their flavor but necessary
There are plenty of ways to make the most of your nuts in your pantries right now but I hope this helps you realize you either can save on waste or that you need to make one less trip to the store right now.
