It was mid afternoon and I took a glance away from my computer and out the window the snow was falling in the most perfect snow globe silence you can imagine. I had been wanting to head outside to gather everything for my last DIY for the year and so I said to Mike let’s go. The snow was the kind of snow they show in movies. The fluffiest and largest flakes that I know so well living on the east side of Lake Michigan. The potato chip size flakes that in minutes leave layers of pure white powder all around on anything it touches. It is the kind of snow you see in It’s A Wonderful Life. The kind of snow you hope you at least get to experience once in a lifetime.
I love these days where the snow falls this way. Your cheeks get perfectly rosy, but the cold isn’t cold enough to make you stay inside by the fire. It is just cold enough for a good pair of boots and a comfy wool coat and a great sweater.
I find that this time of year more than ever I am drawn to the neutrals in my closet. I love the way a white sweater plays on the snow with the right coat. The layers of khakis and whites again the snow makes for a pure and beautiful combo that I love to wear this time of year.
As I gathered a few items for our DIY this week, I made sure to take in how amazing it is to live somewhere that inspires me this much. The layers of textures of snow and the palette of colors that shift with each season. It all fills me up these days to where at times I wonder if I can contain all of it.
This life here in the country is what I was intended for and where I was meant to be. I see it in my favorite pieces of clothing and I see it in how I cook. It all makes sense these days which is why more than ever I am learning to embrace the beauty of each of the seasons.
As I finished gathering the things I needed for our DIY I headed back in and thought to myself I may need taller boots this year if we continue getting this kind of snow. I wondered about what life would look like next year out on our land and I thought I might need to invest in some new snow pants as well. For now, I love getting out in the snow just like this for a quick walk through the woods to remind myself just how precious and beautiful this season is.
What colors do you love to wear this time of year? Oh and any of you have a great suggestion for the right kind of snow pants to wear this time of year?! Every pair I look at makes me feel two sizes bigger than I am and after having a baby I am hoping to find some pants that make me feel extra good about this new bod of mine.

My coat was an item from Hackwith Design House for Wilson and Willy’s a couple winters back and is unavailable but I found some good alternatives.
